movement artist
wonder through rigor

My artistic work invites courage, connection, and wonder through movement.
I encourage a shift in perspective through dance experiences that use rock-climbing technology to alter our relationship to gravity and engage audiences and communities through workshops, transformative performances, film, and presentations in natural and built environments.

A director, choreographer, and performer, I am best known as the founder of the dance company BANDALOOP, whose trailblazing fusion of postmodern movement, rock climbing technology, and a spirit of adventure is world-renowned. My work initiates a shift of perspective and ignites a sense of possibility.
Seen by millions in various formats, including film, commercial, and social media, my work has been presented on Great Performances/PBS, the David Letterman show, 20/20, Good Morning America, and CBS Sunday Morning, among others. It has also been featured in many national publications, including the Smithsonian Magazine, LIFE, and The New York Times Magazine. My current offerings include choreography and performance, experiential education, informal consulting, and public speaking, drawing on three decades of creation and performance experience to find fresh ways to inspire and connect us through movement and rigor.
“Amelia not only creates riveting, internationally-acclaimed dance works that literally defy gravity, she also works in the field to help others advance.”
